Beverly is a committed advocate for the people of Zion, Illinois. She launched her community service journey as a teenager at the Zion-Benton Public Library as a volunteer story book listener. In 2007, Beverly was elected to the Zion-Benton Public Library as a trustee. A year later, she coordinated an after school program for 8 years and received a letter of recognition from President Barack Obama. The after-school program serviced over 700 children in Zion.
In June 2013, Beverly was recognized by the American Library Association and presented the Trustee Citation Award for her outstanding community service. She is the first trustee in the library history to receive such an award. She served on the Zion Benton Public Library Board for fourteen years; four as Board President. Beverly joined other community groups that had social programs promoting literacy and learning; Mentors for Metro Achievement, Boys and Girls Club of Lake County, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of a Lake County and A.W.A.N.A.
Beverly has served as a board member for Literacy Volunteers of Lake County, Zion Exchange Club and NiCasa Behavioral Health Services. She is a founding member of Bridge Builders, an organization dedicated to restoring the relations between the community and Zion law enforcement. Currently she is serving on the board for Lake County Housing Authority.
Beverly is employed at Zion Central Middle School; she has a bachelor’s degree in Applied Behavioral Science, from National-Louis University, in Evanston, IL. She is the mother of 2 daughters.
Of all of her accomplishments-being a mother is her greatest one!
