Commissioner Beverly Stackhouse
Commissioner of Public Works & Engineering
Beverly Stackhouse is a dedicated advocate for the people of Zion, Illinois. Her passion for community service began as a teenager when she volunteered as a storybook listener at the Zion-Benton Public Library. In 2007, she was elected as a Library Trustee and soon after coordinated an after-school program that ran for eight years and served over 700 children in Zion. For her outstanding work, she received a letter of recognition from President Barack Obama.
In June 2013, Beverly was honored by the American Library Association with the prestigious Trustee Citation Award for exceptional community service—becoming the first trustee in the library’s history to receive the award. She served on the Zion-Benton Public Library Board for fourteen years, including four years as Board President.
Beverly has been active in numerous community programs promoting literacy and learning, including Mentors for Metro Achievement, the Boys and Girls Club of Lake County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lake County, and A.W.A.N.A.
She has also served on the boards of the Literacy Volunteers of Lake County, the Zion Exchange Club, and NiCasa Behavioral Health Services. Beverly is a founding member of Bridge Builders, an organization committed to strengthening relationships between the community and Zion law enforcement. She currently serves on the board of the Lake County Housing Authority.
Beverly is employed at Zion Central Middle School and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Behavioral Science from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois. She is the proud mother of two daughters.
Of all her achievements, Beverly considers being a mother her greatest accomplishment.
Beverly Stackhouse was appointed City Commissioner on February 4, 2025, to replace Jacqueline Holmes.
