EPA Title 35 requires the City of Zion to request your participation in this survey
Dear City of Zion Utility Customer,
The City of Zion has implemented a Cross Connection Control Program to comply with current requirements of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). The purpose of the program is to protect the safety of community public water supplies. We are required to provide water that is usable and safe to drink under all foreseeable circumstances.
The first step in the program is to have water customers complete a survey regarding any possible cross connections at their residence or business. A cross connection is any temporary or permanent connection between the public water supply and another source. An example is piping between a public water system and an auxiliary water system such as a lawn irrigation system. Contamination due to backflow from a cross connection can occur in a public water supply if a backflow prevention device is not installed. Backflow is the undesirable reversal of flow of water back into the public water supply system.
We ask for your cooperation by completing the cross connection survey. The survey request is a requirement of the IEPA, and by working together, we can ensure a safe drinking water supply for everyone. If you have any questions or need assistance in completing the survey, please contact our office at 847-746-4060.
